The bridge is a long viaduct over Ward and Randalls Islands, with the famous steel arch crossing the channel where the East River meets the Harlem River. Backing down |
Description: |
The power for LISE is backing down past Lutheran Cemetery in Queens as it heads to pick up its train, and return to Oak Point yard in the Bronx. There it will gather any cars for Selkirk, returning up the Hudson Line after rush hour. Note the catenary supports still hanging over the tracks. In New Haven days, this was a big time electrified freight line. |

LISE rolls through the backyards of Elmhurst as it makes its way to Hell Gate Bridge and the Bronx. The road at far right going under the tracks is Queens Blvd, which the railroad crosses on a series of concrete arch bridges. |

No, its not the one youre thinking of. LISE soars over the Grand Central Parkway as it approaches Hell Gate. The parkway below leads to the Triboro Bridge, which runs alongside the railroad bridge into the Bronx. Its a great place to watch the action. |

Coming from New Haven |
Description: |
NHSE had a couple of routings over the years. For a while it was running south on the Hudson Line to Beacon, then the old New Haven Maybrook line to Cedar Hill. Most of the time it ran via Springfield and the Berkshires, such as this one topping the Berkshire summit with 80 cars in tow behind an unusual leader, as this was almost exclusively GE country for road power. |

Working in the dark |
Description: |
The power for FRSE is sitting at the yard office in Pittsfield, as the crew gets its paperwork together for their pck up. Eight units have the train in hand tonight, though I'm guessing the last four are in tow to Selkirk for servicing, almost home with their trip to Selkirk. |
