Warbonnet And A Heritage II
Title:  Warbonnet And A Heritage II
Description:  The crew of an eastbound general freight waits aboard BNSF Warbonnet 773 down by the County Road 15 bridge. Ol' Leland K.'s paint job sure looks good even with "BNSF" on the long hood.

Viva The Soo Line!
Title:  Viva The Soo Line!
Description:  This picture just shouts "Viva the Soo Line!" it is so evocative of it's glory days. Here todays CP/Soo MN&S 0630 rolls north across the bridge spanning the BNSF Wayzata sub and the Cedar Lake trail with one ribside covered hopper in tow and a pair of veteran Soo units at the disposal of the crew. My own motive power -my bicycle- is in the foreground.

Lo And Behold!
Title:  Lo And Behold!
Description:  This spur track can be found just east of the Hwy 100 bridge over the BNSF Wayzata sub & the Cedar Lake Trail. Usually I find nothing on it, but today was different: Three TOFC flats -two TTX, one BNSF- with three old bridge spans on them.

TC&W On The Louie
Title:  TC&W On The Louie
Description:  Crossing 21st Street West a block from Cedar Lake's famous (or infamous if you prefer) Hidden Beach, TC&W's ILSX unit and a pair of thieir new GP39-2s are being nursed along by the hogger at 10 MPH along the sole existing ex-Minneapolis and St. Louis track in this area. This part of the line is known now as the Bass Lake Spur, with a 10 MPH speed limit.

Rolling By Where There Were Many Tracks Once Upon A Time
Title:  Rolling By Where There Were Many Tracks Once Upon A Time
Description:  The returning St. Paul Turn lesuirely rolls along at 10 MPH past where, on the left, was once solid tracks in the M&ST.L's Kenwood yard. Today a trail is what occupies most of the site save for a sole surviving mainline track. Making for easy railfanning on public property once privately owned by the Louie and, later, the Chicago and North Western. Interesting to relate: When the Minnesota Valley Railway once interchanged with the Soo and the CNW in this area, their motive power laid over on a now-gone siding in this location awaiting the arrival of the CNW with their portion of the interchange. Shame that short line is now gone. Would loved to have seen that.

Easter Train!!!!
Title:  Easter Train!!!!
Description:  I had been having a dry spell catch-wise over my three day Easter weekend holiday. But Easter evening I hit paydirt first with this eastbound freight which was slowly entering Long Lake to take the siding so as to meet a westbound which soon became my second catch. Brown Road is the bridge in the distance.

Title:  Thuroughbred Stampede
Description:  A westbound mixed freight with NS units for power stampedes for the signals at the western end of the siding that stretches from east Long Lake to western Wayzata. Alas, I was unable to get the number of the NS unit trailing the 2570. Anybody know what model it is?

Smoke It Up!
Title:  Smoke It Up!
Description:  Boy were the crew of the 9679 blowing the carbon out but good! Away their MAC duo goes. Having passed beneath Brown Road and now charging for the Williow Drive underpass at the Long Lake/Orono border. Meanwhile, traffic on the Highway 12 bypass flows on oblivious to the good show on the tracks.

Smokey MAC's
Title:  Smokey MAC's
Description:  Making enough smoke to make a steam engine proud, the pair of MAC's at the head end of this empty westbound coal job on the Wayzata sub is about to duck under Brown Road. Even without it's BN herald the Grinstien Green paint on the 9679 still looks good even today. Over ten years after the BN/ATSF merger.

Charging For Wayzata
Title:  Charging For Wayzata
Description:  Away goes this Norfolk Southern trio. Racing for the Luce Line trail bridge and the Wayzata/Long Lake border. Behind the NS 2591 are a pair of plaine-jane NS SD70s. On days like these you'd think you were east of Chicago on the old Conrail lines rather than in the Gopher State, which is just fine by this railfan. Why go to the railroad when the railroad can come to you, hey?

Norfolk Southern Thunder!
Title:  Norfolk Southern Thunder!
Description:  The sound of crickets and frogs anticipating the potential for rain and the noise of traffic on the Highway 12 bypass is suddenly shattered in dramatic fashion by this train on a gorgeous summer-like April afternoon. The crew of this eastbound mixed freight have themselves a trio of NS units for power with SD70M 2591 as the lead unit. Here they are splitting the signals in Long Lake as they race for Wayzata.

Passing The Old Dakota Rail Interchange
Title:  Passing The Old Dakota Rail Interchange
Description:  The MOW train with a mixture of older ex-BN and Soo power passes the old Dakota Rail interchange. Now used for occasional car storage by the BNSF. Sad to relate: I did not know there was a classic ex-BN caboose on the hind end of this job until I looked up from my notes in time to see it rolling around the bend. Better luck next time, I suppose.

Remote-Equipped But In Human Hands
Title:  Remote-Equipped But In Human Hands
Description:  This short train with this classic old Santa Fe unit stopped briefly by Van Cleve Park after crossing 15th avenue to let the crewman seen on the ladder board. Then it was northward ho! It might have been a short hop going to Northtown judging by the short string of misc. freight cars and bare tables it was towing. While it is sporting "Remote Controll Equipped" on it today it had human hands in controll.

The New End Of Track In The Trench
Title:  The New End Of Track In The Trench
Description:  This is where the storage/U of M coal plant tracks served by the Minnesota Commerical in the Dinkytown trench now end after being truncated by work on the new 35W bridge. They now end beneath the 10th Avenue bridge except for one rusty old set of tracks which still wends it's way from by the Stone Arch bridge to by the coal plant. Long unused yet still extant. It borders the road on the very right of this picture.

Mexican Standoff
Title:  Mexican Standoff
Description:  A westbound BNSF (empty) unit coal train waits at "West Wayzata" for an eastbound blocked by red signals to clear. Another eastbound had been waiting on the main track for the coal train and had just cleared by the time I arrived. Sadly, as I was heading down to catch the eastbound, it started up. And I missed it by a hairs breath.
