Album Info:After the Central Wisconsin system shut down on December 31, 1984, the line sat dormant for over a month while the Wisconsin Department of Transportation looked for a new operator. Enter the Chicago, West Pullman & Southern. Before the CWP&S could assume operations, affordable liability insurance needed to be secured. Finally with insurance and legal requirements met the CWP&S began operations of the lines as the Wisconsin & Calumet. The WICT was able to implement projects the Chicago, Madison & Northern and Central Wisconsin could not. In 1985, a $3.1 million rehab program was begun on the Janesville-Monroe line. 90lb rail replaced the worn out 65lb and 75lb iron, thousands of ties were replaced, 100,000 tons of ballast dumped and bridges upgraded. The unprofitable Monroe-Mineral Point segment was abandoned; and service restored to Prairie du Chien and Waukesha. The WICT also started operations on the Janesville-Madison line. The WICT also opened the Milwaukee Road's "J" line for direct access to Chicago. Bill Gardner, President of The Wisconsin & Southern, had his eye on the WICT system as a way to expand the WSOR and in August 1992, the two systems were combined and the WICT faded off into history.

C&WC 901
Title:  C&WC 901
Description:  Glenn Monhart owned the CM&N 564 and the Atlantic Coast Line E3A 501. In 1983, Wishing to find a mate for the 501, Glenn repainted the 564 into ACL purple & silver with Charleston & Western Carolina 901 (there really was an original CWC 901). The 501 & 901 ran several fan trips over the CWRC, but the CWRC never used the F unit in freight service. Here, the 901 is south of Monroe with empty coal hoppers for the ICG at Freeport.

CWRC 781
Title:  CWRC 781
Description:  When the Central Wisconsin shut down, FM 781 was still in Monroe. In June, it was donated to the City of Brodhead. In an unusual move, the WICT used the 781 to lead the train out of Monroe even though it wasnt running. At Brodhead, it was fired up for the last time and moved under its own power to the house track where it sits on display today.

WICT 901
Title:  WICT 901
Description:  The 901 is on the west side of Monroe. To match the 901, Glenn Monhart purchased Milwaukee 117C, overhauled it and painted it IC passenger colors. Why numbered 106?? Well, Glenn had two sets of number boards made for the 901 and if you turn it upside down it becomes 106.
