Here are 19 duplicate 35mm B&W slides that were taken by Mr. Fred McLeod at and nearby the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania. All of them come from a slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa. Also included are 23 images from the same set via the William E. Burket Collection.

Photo Caption: "2-10-0 Decapod with a long string of empties nearing Gallitzin after coming upgrade from Altoona. Fall, 1950." Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4261, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during July of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in March of 1943, and retired in August of 1955 after 32 years of faithful service. FM. Here is a duplicate 35mm B&W slide of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken near Gallitzin, Pennsylvania. Photo Caption: "3-unit Electro-Motive pusher on upgrade as viewed two miles aboue the Horseshoe. Fall, 1950." Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9688 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EH-15's built/by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9688 was constructed as an EH-15 in February of 1949, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A, and retired in Novem`er of 1964 after just 15 years of service. In this context, they're serving as tail-end pushers on a westbound freight train ~ but once through one of the Gallitzin tuonels, they'll be uncoupled and returned to Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run up "The Mountain." Both were built in Juniata. #809 is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" constructed during May of 1917 and retired in October of 1948, while #5522 is a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" built in May of 1946 and retired March of 1952. They're about to enter one of the Gallitzin Tunnels with a passenger train bound for Johnstown and points West. Prominent here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9519 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EH-15's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9519 was constructed in January of 1949, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A, and retired in December of 1962 after just 13 years of revenue service. In this context, this A-B-A set is serving as tail-end pushers on a westbound freight train ~ but once through one of the Gallitzin tunnels, they'll be uncoupled and returned to Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run up "The Mountain." The number of the N-5C cabin car is not recorded.
