SLSF 4-6-0 #701 - St Louis-San Francisco
Description:
Taking a spin on the turntable at an unidentified location (probably Springfield, Missouri, is SLSF 4-6-0 #701 built by Alco-Dickson in November of 1903. The loco was originally a compound unit but was simplified by the Frisco Shops in 1917. It was off the SLSF roster between 1927-1930. The disposition is unknown. Simplified specs - serial #28726, class 700, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 20x26" cylinders, engine weight of 164,300 lb, tractive effort of 28,100 lb. SLSF 4-6-0 #704 - St Louis-San Francisco
Description:
Built by Alco-Dickson in December of 1903, this 4-6-0 #704 lasted until it disappeared off the roster by 1933. This must be a photo of it sitting in the scrap line based on the date. The compound loco was simplified by the Firsco Shops in 1917. This photo is dated 1938 so it was still present but possibly not active. Although this loco, SLSF 4-6-0 #715, lasted on the roster through 1950, the loco was finally scrapped in November of 1951, about 5 months after this photo was taken and probably the last one ever taken of it.
