JTBX SD-M #814 - Hoosier Valley RR Museum |
Description: |
Interesting locomotive at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum was pulling into the station after a tourist train trip into the Hoosier landscape. Originally built at DMIR SD9 #162, it bounced onto the EJE roster as their #814 and onto several other rosters before landing at the museum. Looks great and still in a form of DMIR colors too. |

EJE SD-M #818 - Elgin, Joliet & Eastern |
Description: |
Quite a surprise when I spotted former Elgin, Joliet & Eastern loco #818. Much like JTBX #814 at the Hoosier Valley RR Museum, this loco started out as Duluth, Missabee & Eastern SD9 #172. It bounced to the EJE and then onto several other rosters before landing in the Hoosier Valley RR Museum in all its orange J splendor. |

I remember spotting this loco and its sisters running through Griffith way back in the early 2000's. Nice to see it found a home at the Hoosier Valley RR Museum. |

HVRM 44tonner #509 - Hoosier Valley RR Museum |
Description: |
This little workhorse I suspect is the shop "goat" to help move pieces at the museum. Originally built in August of 1941 as Durham & Southern #4-44, it finally found a new home at the museum. |

RPCX BL2 #56 - nee BAR #556 |
Description: |
Originally built as Bangor & Aroostook BL2 #556 but wearing the Saratoga & North Creek colors, somehow it was eventually purchased by a private owner and brought to the Hoosier Valley RR Museum. It looks spectacular in near mint condition and was started up not long ago. I have a particular fondness for the BL2's. They are the ugly EMD duckling but now looks strangely beautiful. |

Somehow this former Long Island RR RS1 unit built in April of 1950 found its way to the middle of northern Indiana at the Hoosier Valley RR Museum. It's been here since 2010 and still waiting for restoration. |

CO 2-8-4 #2789 Tender - Chiesapeake & Ohio |

Sadly, the only thing that could be viewed of the massive Chesapeake & Ohio 2-8-4 #2789 is its tender sitting outside the shops. The loco, under a long time restoration, was not open for viewing in the shops. |

CO 2-8-4 #2789 Tender - Chiesapeake & Ohio |
Description: |
This is the backside of the tender, not even labeled. Sadly, the loco itself is under a long term (if ever) restoration inside the shops and not open to the public, at least when we were there. I remember taking photos of this beautiful Kanawha 2-8-4 loco back in 2011 while it was undergoing restoration. It's still there and I still have my hope to ride behind it someday! They better hurry up - I'm getting old! |
