NS 3366
Title:  NS 3366
Description:  Dad and I were unfortunately not able to take an end of year trip as we usually do due to work commitments, so we decided on going on a post-Christmas trip instead. Dad hadnt shot trains around Marion for several years, so we decided on documenting the old PRR and Conrail signals around town. Marion is relatively quiet train wise, but if you can get there at the right time, you can get almost all there is to see with different trains. Three locals, L23, L42, and L46, plus two grain trains, 45R and 55G, were all slated to run this day. After arrival in Marion, a CERA crew was getting ready to take the 45R to Amboy to be loaded, but at the same time, L42 was getting ready to head to downtown and south. We were there for signals so we opted out on the grain train and went to CP 79, where we grabbed L42 splitting the PLs there. The pedestal on the right is 1 of maybe 3 PRR pedestals left in service on a revenue freight carrier.

NS 5258
Title:  NS 5258
Description:  Moving back to Goodman Yard we found NS L23 finishing their work on the Marion Belt coming back light engine to the yard. Usually a high hood is the sole 4-axle Geep kept in Marion, but the rebuilt NS 5258 was showing its face in town today. This one has been around this area for quite some time now.

NS 9946
Title:  NS 9946
Description:  Apparently something had happened to the NS 45R that the CERA was taking to Amboy, as it still had not made it out of Goodman Yard before we got NS L42. While we shot L23 it finally got underway, but we were able to chase it down and grabbed it coming through the tiny community of Mier.

NS 4666
Title:  NS 4666
Description:  Things were looking like they were about to die off, with every local being all the locals either being out of town until dark or done for the day. We had documented every signal minus the CP 78 signal for northbounds. We thought that that was good enough as L46 would be the only train to pass it and chances were it would not come back before dark. We began making our way north just as KOLO1 keyed up Lafayette and told them they were ready to bring the 55G into Goodman Yard. We went back, and grabbed the train passing the PRR Depot just down from CP 79.

NS 4666 and NS 1082
Title:  NS 4666 and NS 1082
Description:  Most grain trains that CERA takes to Kokomo run push/pull. So the lead unit was taken off and put on the side at Goodman, while the second unit would pull the train into the yard and the leader would hook onto the rear and lead it to Kokomo. Both units faced west, which obviously was going to make for a very long night for this KOLO1 crew.

NS 3366 and NS 5258
Title:  NS 3366 and NS 5258
Description:  With nothing else around, it was time to think about supper and going home. The sun decided to finally peak its face out behind the clouds for a few minutes though, so we went down to the other end of the yard to grab some shots of the power.

NS 9871
Title:  NS 9871
Description:  Just as we were heading back into town, NS L46 was lit up to come back south. It took them a long time to get back, and it ended up getting dark before they did, but we decided we had to grab it just to say we shot a train by every signal in town. Any day in Marion is wildly successful if you can get every signal in town, and we did. After supper at Culvers and a drive through the Walkway of Lights, we headed for home. A pretty great day around Marion!
