He had stopped to let his conductor walk the train. Then the dispatcher told the 10K engineer to call his conductor back and they could proceed at 30mph. |

BNSF 7918 is the DPU on 10K at South Plainfield, NJ 11/10/2024. The box car ahead, TOBX 889252 is the car I believe pegged the wheel impact detector at Middlesex, NJ. I know the dispatcher gave the car number as a TOBX and that was the only one I saw in the train. I didnt hear anything when the car passed so I wonder if the car was "hunting". That is lateral motion generated when a cars wheel sets need to be contoured and the say shimmys from side to side because the wheels are not properly contoured so they stay at the center of the rail head. |

Last train of the day. NS 4006 is on 28X in South Plainfield, NJ 11/10/2024. By this time, with the cloud cover, the light was disappearing fast. The previous days 23G didnt come until 5:06 pm. By 5pm the light had gotten so bad I was up to ISO of 6400 at f5.0 at 1/1000 of a second. By the time I left and stopped to get a double cheeseburger, no fries or soda, it was pretty much dark. There were no trains between then and when I got onto I-287 to head home. |
