Album Info:This center-cab switcher (WAG 1700) is located at the Lake Shore Railway Museum in North East, PA. Per museum documents, it was built by General Electric in Erie, PA in either 1939 or 1940 (two examined documents give different years). It is powered by two 6-cylinder Cooper-Bessemer GN-6 units (1,000 HP - 750 KW) and has a "B-B" wheel configuration. This is the last remaining 132-ton diesel/electric center-cab locomotive originally built for the Ford Motor Company (Ford road number 1006). It was designed to look like a 1938 Ford automobile. Only eight or nine of this design (two examined documents give a different number) were built between 1937 and 1940. This switcher was last operated by the Wellsville Addison & Galeton Railroad (WAG). It is not currently operational.
