EL RENO OK Jan 5 1976 -- Rock Island GP40 4712 leads a mixed freight leaving the yard eastbound. EMD built the 4712 (b/n 36398) ub April 1970. After the Rock shut down Union Pacific acquired it on April 1 1980. It became UP 643 but retained its Rock paint. On April 29 1980 it was painted in UP colors. It was leased by NdeM from October 1989 to June 1990, was stored unserviceable at Fort Worth, retired on Aug 21 1991, sold to National Railway Equipment (Dixmoor IL) on Oct 9 1991 and in September 1994 acquired by Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern as DME 4002 in Blue with yellow stripe and later in 20th Anniversary Commemorative paint.
