According to SteamLocomotive.com, the first 5 in the class built by Brooks in 1917 cost $52,861 each but by the time the last 5 were built by Richmond in 1924 the cost per loco had increased to $83,405. Inflation was a constant problem even back then! Specifics - M-80 class,57" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 23.5x32" high pressure cylinders, 37x32" low pressure cylinders, engine weight of 429,500 lb, tractive effort of 75,112 lb. |
