Description:  Here is page 29 of a 43-page article by James J.D. Lynch, Jr., entitled "Overview Of The History And Development Of The Pennsylvania Railroad's Altoona Shops." It was published originally in the Autumn 1996 issue of "The Keystone" magazine, page 46. Bottom Photo: Shown here are PRR engines #5898 and three other "E" units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #5898 is an EP-22 built in 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. Middle Photo: Shown here are PRR engines #8610 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both were built by the American Locomotive Company. #8610 is an APS-24MS built in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. These units are actually the rear-end "pushers" for the mail-express train pictured in the bottom photo.
