This historic building at 796 Main Street in Venice, is reported to have once been a railroad bunkhouse, when the modern white building behind it was actually the Los Angeles Pacific Inglewood Branch. More recently that railroad had been the Pacific Electric Inglewood Branch, and then the SP Alla Branch. It was built by the California Southern (later AT&SF) as their Santa Monica Branch. The "bunkhouse" is also kitty corner of the old Los Angeles Pacific (later Pacific Electric) Ocean Park Car House on the Venice Short Line (which could be seen from its front windows). The home was built in 1908 and modified in 1935. Based on the architecture, it was possibly a private home that was then rented out to railroad employees as a boarding house, but the full history is not clear. |
