| Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad E9 9989A eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on March 22, 1965, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in January 1956 (c/n 20541) on EMD Order 2071A for 10 E9's, this was the Burlington's last order of passenger locomotives. This unit went on to become BN 9989, and during April 1973 was rebuilt to BN 9919, became BN-3, was retired in 1997, and now resides at the Illinois Railway Museum. It is seen here leaving town with Train #110 in tow at approximately 6:52 AM. In the background is Train #108, headed by E8 9977, just arriving to pick up passengers. |
