| Kansas City Southern GP40 783 was parked at WEST YARD, just outside of New Orleans. It had been built in February 1967 as Illinois Central 3047 (EMD 32867) and was acquired by the KCS in April 1982, after its initial 15-year lease expired. KCS sent it to Morrison-Knudsen’s BOISE LOCOMOTIVE SHOP in January 1994 as partial payment for upgrading 16 GP40’s into GP40M-2’s 4780-4795, and it was scrapped at Boise in June 1996. |
