Southbound UP Manifest Train - My First Day Railfanning
This was taken way back when I was 6 years old. This was the second train picture I ever shot. Back before the SP Merger, UP used to run trains southbound on the Hoxie Sub. to North Little Rock like in the Mo-Pac Days. Poplar Bluff was the crew change point before they moved it to Dexter in 1998 with the start of directional running over the former SP's Cotton Belt. The engineer is just about to deboard and head off to the motel. We had just chased the train over from Ash Hill, back when the track speed was 40, it wasn't hard to beat trains into town, now it is 70, and it is quite difficult at times. This was taken with the Kodak 110 Camera that belonged to my Late Grandma Anna Pumphery, or as I knew her, "Mamaw".
