The old Bartlett roundhouse was built between 1887 and 1888 by the Portland & Ogdensburg Railroad for the purpose of housing and servicing pusher locomotives for heavy freight and passenger trains on the Maine Central's Mountain Division. Two stalls were demolished in the 1950s as the importance of this yard declined. Currently the Bartlett Roundhouse Preservation Club seeks to restore the old building back to its former glory as it is one of the last roundhouses surviving from that era. |
