BYC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken just East of the Brick Yard Crossing in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 23 July 1955. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9686 and two more "EF" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9686 is an EH-15 built in February of 1949 and later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A. They are pulling a mixed-cargo freight train up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. |
