| Q583 assaults the north slope of Cumberland Mountain between MP J88 and J89. In about a half mile the train will enter the Cowan Tunnel. The gravel path to the left of the train is the old Tracy City Branch (a.k.a. the "Mountain Goat"). The two lines right of ways split at this location, with the Tracy City branch looping around and crossing over the main line on a bridge at the north portal of the tunnel and continuing up the mountain to Sewanee, Monteagle, Tracy City, Coalmont, and Palmer. The branch was removed in 1985. |
