T&P 4-6-2 704
Texas & Pacific P-1-r class Pacific 704 was outside the Texas Pacific-Missouri Pacific Terminal Railroad of New Orleans' engine house at RACE STREET YARD. The loco had been built by Baldwin (51666) in April 1919 as T&P 604 and then almost immediately renumbered 704. It was modernized with Boxpok main drivers, roller bearings, a larger tender and other improvements in April 1944, and received running board skirts in July 1949. Half of the T&P's 22 Pacifics received blue-and-gray EAGLE paint jobs; but only two, the 704 and 706, were fitted with skirts. The engine was retired in March 1952, the engine house was razed around 1967 and Race Street Yard was removed in 1984. (approximate date of photo)
