PRR 9315, GS-4, 1956
Portraits 2. Here is a diesel locomotive portrait via Bert Pennypacker that was taken in Columbus, Ohio, during July of 1956. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9315, a GS-4 switcher built by General Electric in March of 1949, rated at 380 horsepower, and retired in September of 1966 after just 17 years of revenue service. SemIotically speaking, the dwarf in the foreground is supplanting the giant in the background! (#25 of 30)
