TJ and I hunkered down in Milton for the next spot. We waited and waited and waited, and for some reason the train never seemed to show up. My friend Chris showed up at the scene after giving him some info about today and we continued to wait a little longer before we decided to cut back into Cambridge City to see what the problem was. We saw that the train was stopped across Hunnicut Road, so we went down to the crossing and the conductor was sitting at the crossing. He said that the two engines were experiencing too much wheel slip making the grade into Milton, so an engine was being brought out of the yard in Connersville to come assist them. We began to follow the tracks south and barely made it south of Milton before we saw another headlight. We parked at Nickel Plate Road (how ironic), and after a couple minutes engineer Branden Bailey was bringing the green GATX SW8 solo to rescue the train. |
