Sadly, Chicago & North Western 4-6-2 Pacific #593 has reached the end of its service as it sits lined out and missing its bell in the Sterling, IL yard. Originally built by Alco-Schenectady in March of 1914 as CNW #1593, it was much later renumbered to just CNW 593 in 1952. No exact scrapping date was given but would probably be within a year of this photo. This might have been the very last photo taken of the loco. . Specs - class E, 75" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylidners, engine wt of 261,000 lb, tractive effort of 36,700 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
