R2W. Here is the seventh of 13 original photos that I took while riding in an Amtrak passenger train from Rye, New York, to Washington, DC, on 26 July 1987. Visible at the right is Amtrak engine #925, an AEM7 built by GM-EMD in January of 1981 and rated at 7,000 horsepower. In this context, it's just threated the interlocking at New Rochelle's SHORE Tower, and is heading toward the Hell Gate Bridge and Pennsylvania Station in New York City. The other tracks at SHORE Tower are the four belonging to the Metro North Commuter Railroad, which veer off to the right (not shown) and reach Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan after 16 or so railroad miles. |
