Nice picture, Jeffrey. Re the fuel tank. I wonder whyinhell they did that, because it restricts this GP38-2's operable range.

Great Picture. Some railroads bought locomotives with smaller fuel tanks to keep weight down; range for yard/local power is not as big of a deal as road power that may be going cross country. The Kennecott Copper Co. bought GP39-2 units with fuel tanks very similar to this one on the BNSF 2011 for increased ground clearance in their mines-these units went on to MKT and then UP and then points unknown. I wonder if during rebuilding this unit needed a new fuel tank and this one was used from "parts"??
