Conrail 8062  Contributor's Pick!
Not my best work, but please note how skillfully I placed a tree right in front of the engine. A lone GP38 leads a short coal drag along the former Penn Central double track main between Dayton and Springfield. Before belonging to Conrail, the track on which #8062 is traveling was part of the New York Central system. The NYC obtained the track from the old Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad (a.k.a. the "Big Four" Railraod) early in the 20th Century. The other track was once part of the Erie Railroad system. Not long after this shot was taken, the former Erie track was pulled up. This shot was taken from the Wright Brothers Memorial located between Wright Field and Patterson Field which together make up the current Wright-Patterson AFB.
