William Barber General This is an S4 hudson, not a northern. Based on the roller bearing rods and location, this is mostly #4000, but depending on the date, could be #4004. 9/19/2008 10:04:14 AM
Richard Burdick General this is most probably either 4000 or 4001....my research indicates that only 2 of the S4-A/B class got the mars lights and those were the 4000/4001 4/28/2011 1:28:06 PM
William Barber General This is definitely 4000. No. 4001 had an all weather cab and a Worthington S type feedwater heater. No. 4000 acquired a different steam dome cover in some shopping. The cover had a domed or convex top as seen here. All of the other Q hudsons had flat tops. By the way, I believe hudson No. 4004 also was equipped with a Mars light. The only hudsons never equipped were the two Lincoln assigned oil burner S4Bs, nos. 4002 and 4003. 3/25/2013 10:37:22 AM
