Without a doubt, the location is Springfield, IL, third street raiol corridor, just north of Jefferson. The lumber yard was Vredenburg'sLumber (no longer there, now the location of Isringhausen Motors). Visable to the left of the Illinois Capitol, is the Centennial building, now named the M.J. Howlett office building. Thanks for the post, my father worked for REA in the 50's at the G,M, & O station, just out of the frame (to the left) of this photo.

Please excuse the typos from very early this A.M., I was happy to lend some background to this photo...

I actually rode a train very similiar to this one in 1972. It was post-Amtrak takeover and looked like a dog's breakfast, a little bit of everything! This mixed up consist in 1959 is amazing.

The date is wrong. The Great Northern car is in "Big Sky Blue" scheme introduced in 1966. This photo is from about 1972.

I was working for Amtrak in Summer '72, and rode 302, and it looked about like this.

This is the Milwaukee-St. Louis "Abraham Lincoln" as I saw it regularly in my hometown of Milwaukee, Wi. I believe this is 1972. I was a teenager in the "Rainbow-era" and was having the railroad time of my life!
