AMTK 439 |
Description: |
This eastward view is from the B&O bridge over the NYC at the end of West Ave. at Milepost 374. The two tracks on the right lead to Pfaudler and the PRR interchange, but one has been cleverly pulled since tracks K-52-2 and K-52-3 are no longer in service. The RG&E plant on the left, the two bridges in the background, and the tracks to Pfaudler/PRR are all gone today. The old General Railway Signal complex is to the extreme right. Even the milepost has been replaced since this May 1976 photo. |

Amtrak Train Number 73. |
Description: |
Amtrak #73 makes an "s" stop at Poughkeepsie. This version of Amtrak's paint scheme was, in my opinion, among one of its finest (Blue and Silver Mist and pointless arrow). Date is approximate. |

AMTK E8 439 |
Description: |
Amtrak E8 439 without a pilot and an unidentified E unit with icicle breakers at about 18th Street in Chicago, Illinois on an undnown day in March 1981, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. According to the book, Amtrak By The Numbers, number 439 was built in February 1952 (c/n 15712) as RF&P E8 1007, became AMTK 21>, was rebuilt in April 1974 to E8A-R 439 and officially retired in July 1981, although it looks retired here. The locomotives were parked on leads to Dearborn Street Station, closed in 1971. Santa Fe's Super Chief and other passenger trains once used these rails. The rails rising in the background were the IC (ICG on this photo date) rails ascending to meet the ICG's Saint Charles Air Line on the bridge in$the background. I don't know the purpose of the tower building seen on the right. |
