NYC 318 Was Hero, She Kept Her Sisters Going
Title:  NYC 318 Was Hero, She Kept Her Sisters Going
Description:  The South Shore (CSS&SB) acquired about 10 of these from the NYC. They weue Alco/GE 2010 hp C+Cs built in 1930-31. About seven were painted traction orange and numbered into the 700 series. About three were kept for parts to keep the others going. Tlis gal is certainly missing some parts!

NYC R-2 318
Title:  NYC R-2 318
Description:  New York Central Class R-2 318 at Michigan City, Indiana on February 16, 1964, photograph by Chuck Zeiler. Number 342 was built by Alco-GE in February 1931 for the NYC as number 1218 ( GE c/n 11169 - Alco c/n 68246 ), renumbered to 318 in August 1936, sold to the CSS&SB for parts in 1955. In 1955, ten R-2 Motors were sold to the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad to supplement their electrified freight operations. Seven units, CSS&SB ( 701-707 ) were rebuilt to use 1500 V DC overhead lines using parts left over from the conversion of the P-Motors to 660 V DC third rail. The front ends were also modified moving the cab door from the front to a more typical side access.
