Chicago & North Western 4-6-2 #1574
Description:
Although a GP7 would carry the number later, this Alco Pacific had it first. Gleaming in the afternoon sun, it demonstrates the high maintenance these mostly passenger locos were afforded. Tall 75" drivers gives it a scared rabbit look and some speed pulling the coaches. This is a Robert M. Hanft photo.

CNW 4-6-2 #2908 with a rare "Sky Spotlight" - Chicago & North Western
Description:
A much later 1923 E2a class Alco Pacific type loco when compared to #1574 listed earlier, this one carries the proud "Route of the 400" triangular sign on the front. It sported the 79" drivers and a solid 225 psi boiler pressure. Patrick McNamara (see comment below) identified the strange looking angling "canister" on the front above the faceplate as a sky light used to announce the arrival of the crack CNW premier passenger train. Thanks, Patrick, for the info. This is a unique feature I was totally unaware of until now!
