| Description: |
Amtrak 938 is paked on a storage track at Caltrains 4th and King St. Station in downtown San Francisco. Caltrain purchased the AEM-7 and its sister 929 from Amtrak for testing of their electrification system. While the system is still being constructed, the two units are stored on track 12 at the station, closest to King Street. One of the two units will be used for the testing, and the other will be used as a parts locomotive. After testing, the Caltrain board has agreed to "dispose" of the two locomotives. I'm guessing they are referring to scrapping the engines, although one or both of the engines appear as if they could be cosmetically restored if an organization were able to purchase one or both. |

Amtrak/Caltrain 938 |
| Description: |
Unfortunately, this is the best image I will get of Caltrain 938 in Amtrak paint. The AEM-7 was being stored at San Franciscos 4th & King station along with sister unit 929. The two units were hard to access, and so the only image I would get would be from the car as I passed. Towards the end of 2021, the unit was moved to Caltrains CEMOF facility, and was repainted into a new Caltrain paint scheme. The engine was last spotted on January 28 returning to CEMOF from a ceremony in San Francisco. Behind 938 is Caltrain cab-car 113. |

| Description: |
Mixed equipment rests at the Caltrain yard north of San Jose Diridon. 917 has just shoved a set of gallery equipment onto a side track. This equipment had just arrived from San Francisco on train #236. On the right is a long string of mixed coaches and power. Buried midway through the line of coaches is Caltrain 938, one of two ex-Amtrak AEM-7 locomotives the railroad owns. These elusive engines are to be used for testing the electrification systems along the route. |
